Last week, I had the chance to use a 10% off coupon at my local fabric store and one of the things I got was a little set of fabrics for a baby quilt. There are 4 prints and a solid white, for a total of 5 different fabrics. I think I'm going to jump on the whirlygig/pinwheel bandwagon. I'll use the bottom three prints and the white for the blocks and the top print for the sashing- it has a third color in it. That leaves two decisions: how big to do the squares (I don't have the template) and do I want the one with stripes to have the stripes go the long way, the short way, or diagonal?

I vote diagonal. No reason, really. Other than I like things that are diagonal. :)

ReplyDeleteI love the bunny rabbits. That will be a cute quilt. Maybe you should try some different blocks with the stripes set different ways.
ReplyDeleteIf it were me, I would consider using the top fabric (with more color) in the blocks, to make them pop more.
The rabbits are supercute, cuter than the picture shows. I wish I knew someone having an Easter baby.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, would you swap it for a different one for sashing then? I kinda like the idea of white sashing too, with the white backgrounds. The pinwheels would certainly jump out.
I'm blog stalking. I'm not a quilter, but I think the block sizes should be in porportion to the size of the quilt. In other words, a small quilt with big blocks (4" or larger) might look "funny". Maybe try different block sizes and layouts with some colored paper first?

ReplyDeleteI just think if you use the top print as sashing, the yellow in it is going to jump out and overwhelm the actual blocks. If you mix it in, though, it will work with the design.
