On Hiatus

I'm sure you've all (all 5 of you) noticed a lack of posts here.  For the time being this blog is on hiatus while I enjoy my new daughter. For more reading on my crazy life, please stop by my home away from home, Books. Lists. Life.  I'll be back in this space in a couple months, promise.

Item of the Day: ABC Twill Tape

Ok, I admit it, I have no idea what I would do with this. But isn't it cute?

She's got lots of other cute stuff too, car and trucks and cupcakes and kitties and storybook characters....

Etsy Item of the Day: Handmade Chrysoprase and Sterling Ring

I love the trend of big clunky jewelry, I just wish that I had somewhere to WEAR big stuff! That doesn't mean I don't drool over things like this one:

(Ok, I admit it, I wear the exact same jewelry every single day. Boring. This is what I'd wear if I weren't boring.)

Etsy Item of the Day: Tennessee State Pin

This seller was featured on the front page of Etsy recently for a different state. I went looking for South Dakota and did not find it, but I did find a few other states dear to my heart.  This is the Tennesse one, which is super cute.

I bet if you wanted one of your state and couldn't find it that it could be made for you. Plus, wouldn't this make a very affordable gift?

Item of the day: Dinosaur Crayons

So yesterday I showed you some Animal Cracker Crayons, I'm following that up today with Dinosaur Crayons. How much fun would these be to use? Especially for little kids like mine who love to RARRRR at you!

Item of the Day: Animal Cracker Crayons

How adorably cute are these?? They make me want to start giving out party favors at birthday parties.  Or maybe just buying some up for little kid gifts.

Item of the Week: Birthday Week: Pearl Button Necklace

Another of June's birthstones is pearl and while I'm not a huge fan of traditional pearl jewelry, this cute little button necklace caught my attention. I think this would make a great gift for someone who sews. Ahem.

Etsy Item of the Day: Birthday Week: Kawaii Big Cat Cotton Fabric

In an effort NOT to post jewelry every day, I'm sharing a piece of fabric with you today. This one is on my favorites list, but I suspect if I owned it I'd have a very hard time cutting into it. Can't you see it as a wallet or little makeup bag?

If you can't think of soemthing to get me for my birthday (no pressure!) you wouldn't go wrong buying a stack of fabric from this shop.

Etsy Item of the Day: Birthday Week: Moonstone Ring

My birthday is approaching at the end of this week so I thought I'd spend the week with a few things for June birthdays. June folks are lucky, we get our choice of several birthstones, one of which is moonstone. From a brief look at Etsy it would appear that the Twilight craze has infected the moonstone, but I still find them lovely.

I particularly like this simple ring, from louisagallery, but you should definately check the shop for other rings as there are some great choices. (I might like this one more, but it doesn't fit the June theme!)

Ok, how gorgeous is this necklace? Clearly, not for everyday wear, but I'd love to wear it out to dinner or for special occasions. (Ha. Like I go out to dinner!)

Item of the Day: Vinyl Wall Art Blowing Cherry Blossom Tree

We are still debating just how we're going to set up our 3 bedroom house to accomodate 5 people, and it's not looking likely that we'll do a girl's room and boy's room until the children are older. That doesn't stop me from looking at cute little room decor items though.

How darling would this tree be with pink and white leaves? Light pink and lighter pink? Our walls are tan, maybe with a white trunk?

Having just returned from a successful camping trip this weekend, I was drawn to look for items related to camping.  I found this adorably cute little toy camper and car, I bet my son would LOVE this!

Etsy Item of the Day:

For Memorial Day, I was hoping to find something a little patriotic to list as my item of the day. As it turns out, I'm not a big lover of Americana or flags.  In the end I chose this twin sized quilt. It's not overly patriotic, but it does have a bit of the ol' red, white, and blue.

Etsy item of the day! Little Bird sugar bowl

For the last year or so I've been on the lookout for a cute little sugar bowl to put beside my coffee maker. Since I currently scoop a spoonful of sugar out of the big sugar canister, i think it would be nice to have something a little more graceful in action.  This particular sugar bowl is a little bit out of the price range I've set, but it is certainly darling!

This one is priced at $40, but as the seller states, it could also hold jewelry or makup or office supplies or anything else. It's also sold in a set with a little creamer and  I wish I had both.

Etsy item of the day! Karma with a Side of Love Bracelet

I've long had the idea to post a weekly round-up of great Etsy items. I have yet to figure out how to make little montage of pictures in an appealing way.  Today, I decided to heck with it, how about a daily item instead?

So our first Etsy item of the day is this Karma with a Side of Love Bracelet.

Isn't that adorable? I think it perfectly fits my own personal style. I'm a big lover of a bracelet that I wear all time  (or a necklace or rings, I rarely change my jewelry) and right now I am between bracelets. I started with a leather Life is Good one, but one of my children CHEWED ON IT! Then I got a cute one in Hawaii made of white shell but quickly realized that it was turning dingy- I think from dishwashing. This one, or really any one of several in the Mae Bee shop, would fit me quite nicely. And at $18 might even fit my budget!

Introducing: Rice Bags!

Last night I added a brand new category of products to my Etsy shop! These are extra long rice bag heating pads- they measure approximately 7x19 and are heavy enough for a nice comforting drape across your shoulders. Each is made with a soft flannel inner bag, divided into chambers so all your rice doesn't shift to the end, and a removable, washable, slip cover. Pop it in the microwave for a few moments for soothing heat, or an hour or so in the freezer for an ice pack that won't melt all over you. There are four of them listed now, and I have some less floral ones in the works this afternoon. You can see them all here.

Hello? Is this thing on?

Sorry to be mia lately! It's been a busy couple of months at my house- if you haven't heard the news my family will be growing by one later this summer and it's hit me HARD.   I'm fast approaching the second trimester though and am hoping to pull out of it soon. I don't have my wits together for a well thought out post today, but have been pondering a few things.

  • I'm hoping to really bump up promotion and production for the shop before the baby arrives. I'm hoping to turn it into a real source of income in the next year.
  • To that end, I've been making list upon list of ideas of new products and refined designs. I can't WAIT to get a chance to try some out!
  • I've been thinking that I really need a second sewing machine to leave in the main living area. My shop is in the basement and is set up pretty well for ironing and such, but sometimes, like for banners, I just need to be able to do a straight stitch, no ironing for long stretches. It would be GREAT to be around the family for this. I have three choices, tell me which you'd do: (And sorry, can't make blogger make this a real outline)
  • Choice 1: buy a second machine. Something very inexpensive, we're talking less than $100.  And new. I do not want the iffy-ness of an ebay machine. Pro: will work out of the box. Con: would cost me money.
  • Choice 2: I actually HAVE a second machine. It's fairly old (but I'm not sure how old.) It's my grandmothers old machine- an Elna Air Electric. It intimidates the hell out of me. I do have the manual so in theory I can figure it out, but it needs a tune up AND it's missing it's power cord. Pro: I already own it, sentimental value. Cons: would have to buy a cord and figure out an alien machine. Also, it is VERY HEAVY.
  • Choice 3: Suck it up and sew in the basement.
I am hoping to start blogging more over here in the coming months. I'd love to do a weekly round up of fun projects or Etsy finds, and I'm going to start blogging about shop items again. In the meantime, keep me in your reader, because I will be back!

Celebrate the Boy!

I don't know if you have sons or daughters (or even if you have children) but if you have sons you may have noticed tons of cute tutorials out there for girls. Or, if not for girls for very YOUNG boys.  I just stumbled across the blog Made By Rae where she is celebrating February with an entire MONTH of tutorials for boys. Stop by both the Made by Rae blog and MADE and take a look!

Craft Hope for Haiti

Looking for a way to help with the devastation in Haiti?

I found the perfect way at Craft Hope.   I'm going to steal their words, because I couldn't say it better.

Craft Hope community, it is time to Craft Hope for Haiti. The devastation in Haiti is catastrophic and we can help. At the encouragement of many people we will be opening a Craft Hope Etsy shop to benefit Doctors Without Borders. We are growing by leaps and bounds and as needs arise we will rise up to meet them.

The Craft Hope Etsy shop will allow crafters to donate products and allow folks to purchase them. With 100% of the proceeds going to charity. Having seen, firsthand, the beautiful items you have created I know this can be one awesome charity shop. The dresses, sock monkeys, quilts, blankets, beanies, etc. that you have all created are incredible. I know many of you even have your own Etsy shop where you sell you’re items. This is a call for all things handmade. If you can make it, we will sell it to benefit Doctors Without Borders. If you have a handmade item you’d like to donate, please read the guidelines below.
Many people have asked how they can support Craft Hope and it’s charities if they can’t sew, knit, craft. Well, this is the way. You can shop in the Craft Hope Etsy shop, get a beautifully handmade item, and rest assured that the proceeds from your purchase will go to charity. It’s that simple.

I donated two of my wallets this morning (they don't appear yet) but feel free to stop by and shop the lovely items that other crafters have already donated.

If you are interested in donating an item, you can find instructions at this link.
