Dyline's Block

This is the second block for the Bee Inspired quilting group. When Dyline announced her intent to have us all do Vacation House blocks I was a little disappointed. It seemed there wouldn't be a lot of choice in how we made them. As it turned out, if I did math a little better, I'd have seen that there wasn't any choice. She sent three pieces and they only could have been used in one way. However, I messed up cutting and my last piece was about 1.5 inches too short to use. Good thing we were allowed to use our own fabric, as the blue leafy fabric was mine!

In the end, I liked my block ok, but what I really liked was the idea of making my own Vacation Home quilt. I can picture a little neighborhood of houses with different embellishments and I really want to do it, so thanks for introducing me to it, Dyline.

  1. The blue leafy fabric fits perfectly--very tropical looking.

  2. Hey, funny, I felt the same way ... and did the same thing! Only the only piece of batik I had was from a scrap bag I'd purchased (not personally a fan) and I couldn't make the "roof" in two pieces, so my roof is one whole piece. And funny #2 ... my niece Lisa introduced me to blogging a few months ago and when I saw your comment, I assumed it was from her. Then several hours later, she left me a comment and I thought huh, maybe the first comment was from a different Lisa. So ... thanks for stopping by! I'm loving the whole virtual bee thing and joined a doll quilt swap as well. I'd like to stay involved in these, they're fun.

  3. Trish, I think it would have also been nice to do the whole house in the leaves, no different roof.

Donna, I'm not a huge batik fan either. I've seen a few quilts that are stunning but nothing to justify the real estate they occupy in my local quilt shop. I probably only have 3 or 4 pieces in the stash.

  4. I wasn't a fan of her swap either...very limiting!

My hubby laughed when he read the directions, telling us which way to press!

I really hope she likes her quilt...that's all that matters. And that we helped!

I do like your house though. It looks like the lights are on!

  6. Thanks Melody. I have been sadly remiss in updating this blog. I have a couple of small things I could be posting. Maybe this weekend....

Meanwhile, I do much better at posting on my other blog.
