Reproduction Quilt

Several years ago when I first started quilting my grandmother gave me this quilt. It was made by one of her sisters years ago. It has been stored in my closet ever since. I was hoping that when the Bug was born that he'd be born a she and we'd be able to plan his room around it, but that was not to be. I recently pulled it out of storage and put it on the bed in his room because it seems a waste of a quilt not to have it in use. It's very hard to get enjoyment out of something you have stored in the top of a closet. (I would also use my china every day if I had enough room in the kitchen to store it. As is, it's in the basement. One day I'll have a pantry!)

Now that I have it out, I very much want to make my own reproduction quilt. I have my eye on these lovely fabrics. I just need to find a good pattern- I want something that isn't too hard, but is still interesting. Any suggestions?

Calendar Quilt Challenge '09

Rachel of p.s. i quilt has tempted me into my first sewing challenge. This is a calendar quilt challenge, where you sew on one piece A DAY for the entire year (but she says it's ok to do it weekly, thank god.) The quilt itself will look a bit like the quilt I just completed for my aunt, 4 rows of stripes, but all from my stash so hopefully it'll be fun and not totally clashing by the end. The inspiration for this challenge comes from Pat Sloan's Favorite Techniques (scroll down to the bottom for a picture of her Calendar Quilt.) I am hoping that signing up for this will force me downstairs to sew at least a tiny bit every day.

A little self promotion, Etsy style

As you all probably know, I have a little Etsy shop. I don't have a lot of free time and haven't added anything in weeks, so I have decided to close up shop. BUT- I'm gonna open a new one in January. I'll still be selling the same type of items, but due to several reasons, least of all this book, I'm going to change the name. I'm hoping to be able to put some real effort into it once all this Christmas sewing is done.

Why should you care?

Because I'm going to mark down the three remaining items to $10 each. I don't want to feel that I have wasted my listing fee, so I'm hoping to sell them before the transfer to the new shop takes place. The three remaining items are all Correspondence Kits. They are a handy little wrap designed to hold a pen and some notecards, and perhaps your address book. If you're looking for a little gift for a teacher or a Secret Santa gift, this is a great idea.

Momma's Got a Brand New Bag!

I've been doing a little bit of Christmas sewing that I CAN'T show, because some of the giftees actually read my blog. I was getting jealous of the cute stuff and had to make myself something.

This is my first attempt at a zippered bag and that part turned out great. I still need to tack down the binding on the inside, but otherwise I LOVE it. It's a little bigger than need be, but I have a tendency to throw a ton of crap in my bag. (The original dimensions were 17" tall by 16" wide.) The handles are also a little long, but it'll work fine when I'm wearing a winter coat. It's more the color of the darker pictures so perfect for fall.
