I finished my first block for the bee inspired quilt group! Rachel requested any style pinwheel or whirlygig. I made a 15 inch block of whirlygigs, and then cut it down to the requested 12.5 inch block. I did a trial block first using some fabrics I had on hand, and I'm REALLY glad I did, as I made a big error in it. I was much more careful on the real block. The colored one is Rachel's, the black and tan one is mine.

Progress, I think.
This morning I managed to get downstairs for an hour or so to sew. I had to spend the first 20 minutes of it clearing off the sewing table and the cutting table, so not much actual sewing was done. The Pirate and I spent some time sorting buttons into these cute little bowls I picked up at the thrift store for 50 cents each. I still have a ton to go through, but it's a start.
I picked up a couple skirts to cut up into bags.
I also got a pale green linen dress that I'll cut up to use, but it wasn't exciting enough to warrant a picture.
I cut my fabric for the whirlygigs, and made one block of each fabric. I'm glad I took Made By Amanda's suggestion and included the colored one.
Then I sewed roughly a mile of blocks with no thread in the bobbin and decided it was a sign that I should come blog instead. I'm planning to try to import all my posts from the old sewing blog, so if you suddenly see a bunch of stuff dated from last year, this is why.

Quilt planning
Last week, I had the chance to use a 10% off coupon at my local fabric store and one of the things I got was a little set of fabrics for a baby quilt. There are 4 prints and a solid white, for a total of 5 different fabrics. I think I'm going to jump on the whirlygig/pinwheel bandwagon. I'll use the bottom three prints and the white for the blocks and the top print for the sashing- it has a third color in it. That leaves two decisions: how big to do the squares (I don't have the template) and do I want the one with stripes to have the stripes go the long way, the short way, or diagonal?
Any suggestions before I start cutting?
